Low Tech Meets High Tech, & You Meet the Designer
If you're wondering just who would dream up the idea of a wooden light bulb, the answer is Rysouke Fukusada, who studied product design at Kanazawa College of Art, and then worked at Sharp Corporation as a designer of consumer electronic products.
The Marriage Ceremony
A piece of wood was formed into a shell using the rokuro technique until minimum thickness was achieved. Thinness would be the right word, because light from the LED bulb is capable of penetrating the shell. An LED bulb was inserted into the wooden shell and married to an aluminum socket.
An aesthetically pleasing fireside glow results, and fortunately without the fire. The low heat output of the LED presents no threat. Don't plan on buying one soon though, because it is not likely to actually be produced by a major manufacturer. It's a great idea that could find a place in the decor of many homes and other settings. Perhaps a brass socket version would be well received.
