As Dell Inc. computer company continues its move toward becoming a full-spectrum, end-to-end provider of IT services and management, and also hardware and software solutions, the company is expanding its portfolio of product offerings for school districts, non-profits, government agencies, and public health care organizations.

Dell is now selling to school districts and universities, a "predictive analytics-based decision support system" with the stated purpose of improving school efficiency and student outcomes. Dell is calling it the "Education Data Management (EDM) solution, a decision support system", designed to improve retention and graduation rates, while personalizing student learning, and improving planning, management, and reporting. Dell Inc. claims the system can predict the career and college readiness of students as early as fifth grade.

Dell says in a written statement that the EDM system integrates operational data with student performance using predictive analytics to assist teachers in following students' activities, so that early intervention can be implemented to improve success rates. The EDM process tracks student data over multiple years, spanning various schools to target specific aptitudes and interests. That is accomplished with a real-time data system which aggregates student performance information across multiple disparate systems.

The EDM system supports master data management, and an online portal for parents, teachers, students, and administrators; while also offering district-wide operational planning and performance for facilities, finance, and human resources.
