Dell Latitude 13 Common Hard Drive Cable Problem

Instructions on How to Install Rubber-Bumper-Spacer to Prevent Future Abrasion / Wear of Your Hard Drive Cable

The problem you experienced with your Hard Drive Cable is the result of abrasion caused by the base / bottom of the laptop rubbing against the cable. It happens because of a small design oversight by the manufacturer. A repeat incident is easily prevented by placing a rubber-bumper-spacer in the exact spot indicated by an arrow pointing to that spot in the image below. Dell made a specific part (Part # 1Y4GG) to address this issue, but those are not available. The Parts-People replacement part is functionally similar and should work well. http://ppci.me/i/4967 The replacement hard drive cable can be purchased at this link. http://ppci.me/i/10128 *Do note that replacing the base / bottom of the laptop will require a bit of patience because of friction when it comes into contact with the rubber-bumper-spacer. That's a good thing actually, because it means the spacer is functioning correctly in keeping the base from contacting and abrading the cable. Please call Parts-People should you have questions or difficulty.
