E01 – Kim Dotcom, Dell, 3D Printing and Atari: The Red-Headed Geek Show

I'm Daria Jansen, the Red-Head from the new Red-Headed Geek Show, and here is a quick summary of the tech news I decided to talk to you guys about in my show! My first topic for this week in technology involved the infamous Kim Dotcom, and why he was recently the source of insane amounts of publicity. Exactly one year after MegaUpload was shut down from copyright infringement charges, Dotcom launched his anticipated new cloud sharing site called Mega. His new success not only came from the amount of new users to sign up, but from the FBI raiding his home illegally. Good way to start things off Kim! Now people see how you can be successful even when the FBI is on your back! In fact, you can actually thank them!

Another news item I wanted to talk about this week was on the topic of Dell possibly going private. They stated the intention
to do this was to not only aid in the company's growth, but to alleviate some stress with their competitors. This would be an incredible move for Dell, one that could be quite risky. In addition, Microsoft is rumored to possibly buy out Dell, investing between one and three billion.

Atari Incorporated, also know as pioneers in video and arcade games, recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. They decided to make this move after their french parent announced they hadn't made profit since 1999. In addition, Atari owes a whopping ten to fifty million to numerous creditors. We shall see what will become of Atari. I can honestly see someone else buying it before letting it completely dissipate.

Finally, I wanted to let everyone know about an amazing Dutch architect who wants to use 3D printing to build an entire house. Thats right! This amazing man's intention is to use concrete and fiberglass, as well as the 3D printing material to build a house. Additionally, in his words the house would “have no beginning and no end”. Sounds amazing to me! Cant wait to talk to you all next week!
