E02 – R2D2 Raspberry Pi, Google Driverless Car, & HTC 2nd Phone: Red-Headed Geek Show

Daria the Red-Headed Geek here! I'm back this week to tap into some neat Google news topics that have happened this week. First, the incredible driver-less car idea by Google is sprouting many advantageous effects, as well as rippling ones. This new technology is rumored to alleviate traffic congestion, save tens of thousands of lives per year, as well as allow cars to go faster and operate closer together. However, every idea has it's downsides. With this grand technology built into these new vehicles, many companies could become useless. For example, would anyone continue to need back up assistance, auto insurers, body shops or injury lawyers? I tap into both sides of the coin to make it clear just how much the new Google invention could change the way we transport as a society.

On to more Google news, they recently donated over 15,000 Raspberry Pi's for school kids all over the UK! Allowing this type of hands-on accessibility for children interested in computing is incredibly generous. Having said that, these students will be able to have a greater understanding of the way computers work.

For my Wild n Wacky section I go over an interesting Valentine's Day gift- a Raspberry Pi operated R2D2 named Artoo. That's right. A Computer Science PHD student decided to build a motorized, voice commanded robot for his girlfriend. Yep, she loved it.

Finally, I told you guys what HTC phone designers are thinking of coming up with next, and why I think it is rather silly. They are offering a second, more ergonomic handset to carry around for those who find their android phones to be “oversized”. Hope you guys enjoy!
