Hey peoples! After last week's rant on the bionic eye, this week I couldn't help myself. There is not only a new Bionic Hand in store, but Bionic Legs as well! The Hand will be transplanted into a subject later this year and the wiring of the hand will be connected to his nervous system. The legs will be available to military amputees once the funding is available. It's only going to cost the UK government a mere 6.5 Million Pounds. Cheap, eh?
For Wild and Wacky, how about a little blue-tooth sticker, named the Stick-N-Find that can link to your own smart phone! What does it do? It connects via blue-tooth to an app on your phone and when searching for a particular item, that has the sticker on it of course, it will tell you the approximate distance, within about 100 feet, of its location! That could help many who's couch eats their keys or TV remotes.
Lastly, there are two animal friendly gadgets worthy of mentioning. One, an actual GPS system for your pet's collar, something we have been waiting for since the microchip! The other gizmo is called Puppy Tweets! Yes you read that correctly! If you have ever been at work and wanted to know what your doggy or kitty was up to? Well, with a sensor attached to the collar of your pet, it will send a signal to it's personal Twitter account. You could even get a tweet from your dog saying “Ma? You at lunch? If so, could you bring me a doggie bag?”. Yes, I am laughing too.
Because I usually find something 3D printing related I once again had to rant about another one! The 3Doodler! It is a 3D printing pen that allows you to simply press down and a thin string of plastic comes out then quickly hardens! Goes great for those not artistically gifted! We call it a hot glue gone crazy!
Google news this week is good news. They are cutting funding from pirating sites by filtering those who are linking to them, then blocking the site from their access! MUAHAH! Google is in talks with top credit card firms, Visa, MC and PayPal to crack down on these pirating sites by removing their sources of funding. Once Google realized just how many links have been removed from what is called the DMCA-take-down process, the bad boys can now get caught!
Finally, Facebook news this week is NOT good news. It's more like, greedy news. Facebook reported a 1.1 billion in pre-tax profits from US Operations in 2012, but are reportedly paying ZERO Federal and State Taxes. Why? We do not know why they are getting this multi-million dollar tax-break, but it sure sounds fishy, and of course, unfair. To burst the bubble even more, Facebook has been using scare tactics towards its users to push them to download a virus scanning program called McAfee. Why? Well I do know this, to make more money! Creepy and greedy, I say. See you next week kids!
