That new WiGig standard is enabled by the first 60-GHz multi-gigabit tri-band wireless chipsets developed by Wilocity in cooperation with Qualcomm Atheros, and currently provides speeds of up to 4.6 gigabits per second. Because the chips are tri-band they do support the ability to revert to the previous 5-GHz and 2.4-GHz transmission standards. That's important because 60-GHz transmissions are short-range and have difficulty penetrating walls.

Dell designed this dock for use in venues such as classrooms, meeting rooms, and offices where multiple presenters in rapid succession may need access to a large variety of peripherals such as projectors, displays, speakers, or even a wireless link into a wired Ethernet network. The Dell Wireless Dock D5000 provides three USB 3.0 ports, and supports up to two external displays with both HDMI and DisplayPort, as well as a front audio in / out port for voice over IP at speeds as fast as 4.6 gigabits per second.

IT managers may be particularly interested in the fact that data is encrypted with strong authentication protocols, and deployment is easy through a pairing button that connects to Dell Connection Manager software.
