Morning! Afternoon! Evening! Its Daria! Here's this weeks topics in a nutshell. They are impressive! Raspberry Pi is having their one year anniversary, an engineer is working on his 3D printed Car, some 4D news, a boy wonder creating an easy to diagnose cancer gadget, and finally a quick overview of the Chromebook Pixel!
It has been one year since the Raspberry Pi Foundation launched, and in that time they have sold over a million of their incredible devices! Not only that, but think about the countless Do-It-Yourself and programming projects conquered! In celebrating the first birthday, the Foundation decided to release a limited edition of a Blue version! Limited to only 1,000 and mostly being donated to childrens' causes, these Pi's are handsome. However, some are being held back as competition prizes, which you can enter on the Foundation website!
An engineer named Jim Kor has big ideas for his own 3D printed car, named the Urbee2. The car is said to be as strong as steel and only 1,200 pounds and as safe as a race car! The way this car will be printed is with sprayed plastic producing these very light and efficient cars. Kor's thesis “is to take small parts from a a big car and make them into single large pieces” I cant wait to hear more about his project. I sure do love a genius now and then!
Speaking of genius, 4D printing is coming! MIT scientists are working on this upgrade already! What does it do? It allows objects to self-assemble! It could soon be used to install objects in hard to reach places like underground pipes or even assembling furniture! My favorite example is IKEA and how difficult it can be to put together their product once you get it home. With 4D printing, you might never need to call for backup ever again!
A 16 year old has made history recently. A year ago, a boy named Jack Andraka won the Intel International Science and Engineering fair for an almost 100 percent accurate paper sensor that detects pancreatic cancer incredibly faster, cheaper and more accurate than current methods. What is he working on now? Well, with the help of a team of other young scientists, a small device that can diagnose disease instantly! Just by scanning your skin!! Amazing, huh?
Lastly, the Chromebook Pixel. MmMMmm isn’t it beautiful? Not only that, but the specs are impressive all over this thing. With a quick review today of its screen resolution and rigidity of it's body, you can get a quick look at its power and beauty. Airing early next week, however, will be a detailed full review of the Pixel. Please like and subscribe to this episode to be tuned-in just when it airs!!
