I'm more excited than every about this episode! Want to know why? Because I rant and rave about the news on my mind and now I feel so much better! Like I got some serious things off my chest. You guys out there might end up being my venting outlet!
This week I read a lot about Facebook and low self-esteem. With all the realities of bullying, teenage challenges, self image issues, etc...I really had not thought too much about Facebook's involvement. Now that I have, however, it makes perfect sense. When one logs on to a social media site, they are exploring other people and also expressing themselves. It is fun, but it can also effect the way they can feel.
An important tool of feeling good about yourself is to not compare yourself to others. What they are doing or what point they are at in their lives should have nothing to do with your own self worth. According to many studies and articles read, Facebook can make you feel both good and bad about yourself. However, the feeling good part could have to do with a false sense of self image you are portraying, perhaps. Its a helpful social media tool for many reasons. But like anything good, there is the bad as well.
My second rant involves Nintendo. I'm obsessed with Nintendo. It has been my childhood love and is one of my current vices to date. With the new Wii U coming out, however, Nintendo's usual success has taken a turn for the bad. Their sales have not been good with the Wii U. It seems to be the way they went at marketing the thing.
Why would you market the Wii U by making it one-up,(oops for the pun), the Wii? Yeah you should push in a clever way, but what they did was weird. They used a flier that showed a side-by-side comparison of the two consoles, and in the flier they obnoxiously marked all the Wii U's specs, almost like they were downgrading their previous product. Made no sense to me.
The last thing they did recently that weird-ed me out was the commercial for the Wii U itself. I only saw it online and have yet to see it on television. It showed all the many tricks the console can do, like video chatting to drawing, which are cool and all, but not what Nintendo is known for, gaming.
Finally Google Glass. You are hot and controversial right now aren’t you? Honestly I don’t see that going away anytime soon as people begin to get paranoid, apprehensive, overall anti-glass. Wait, that has already happened.
As I mention in the episode, even a band on driving with glasses in West Virginia is in the works. This is before the product is even out. I do not blame people for being weary, it is just hard to tell how the glasses are going to affect our lives before we get there. It isn’t as if cameras aren’t everywhere already. They have been for a long time and they will only increase. I hope people do not use Google Glass in a detrimental manner, but the truth is, people do what they want to. I will look forward to giving you my second rant next week! Thanks for reading, watching and listening!
