Quite a few topics to cover this week! Google fiber is coming to Parts-People's hometown, Austin, Texas! It is really going to be a great move for the city. Paying for cable, internet and phone service can be a huge chunk of the monthly bills. Having another option for a less expensive and almost 100 times faster service is quite exciting.
The new Xbox is the source of a flurry of rumors over the internet. Some of the rumors are appearing to be more and more like reality. For instance, the issue of backwards compatibility. Microsoft has given clues that with the new x86 chip powered by AMD, using older generation games would not be congenial. In addition, the price is pretty high. The 720 (what it is being called right now), is said to be in the 500 dollar range, with the exception of a cheaper option along with a monthly contract. Quite controversially, the 720 will allegedly be online-only. This has gamers in an uproar because if the internet were to go out, you would not be able to play any of your games.
Remember when I went on my rant about texting and driving being dangerous? Well, I was not kidding but the news I read this week actually surprised me. Using GPS while driving is now banned in California. California court will issue tickets to anyone using their handy phone guidance while behind the wheel. As an obvious form of distraction, GPS is available to drivers for a reason, to use while driving. I wonder if other states will catch on to this.
This week I found a gadget that I found neat enough to share with you! For you photography lovers out there, the Nero Trigger is a must have helper. Although it has many modes to choose from, such as sound, lightning, and time lapse, it is very simple to use. It triggers your camera at the precise moment to capture perfectly!
Has anyone heard of robot assisted surgery? Well, the master surgeons have been using Da Vinci, a surgical robot that has been used in prostate, gallbladder and even womb surgeries. It sounds pretty amazing and it is, however the FDA is on the lookout. This is due to several incidents that have caused harm to patients, a big no no. Robotic surgery has not been proven statistically to be as good or better than conventional surgeries.
Finally, XP Support for Windows is leaving us, after a good, long 12 years. Make sure to remember it is only the support that is going away, and XP itself will still be around. Something new coming to a computer near you is a new hybrid memory cube to boost DRAM bandwidth 15 fold. Today's DRAM chips consume a lot of energy to transport data and can have memory issues. This can change drastically with the new memory cube, which will be launched by the end of the year! Thank you for reading, watching and commenting!
