Its been an incredible past couple weeks in the tech world. Not because of gadgets, well, there are gadgets, rad ones that I wanted to tell you about…like a lot but now I have more important things to say. It has recently come to our OFFICIAL attention, well thanks to the help of a brave whistleblower Ed Snowden who exposed us to the truth about the National Security Administrations illegal actions against our privacy! I don't think it came as a surprise to everyone. With all of the terroristic plots, inte rnet child pornography, endless scandals; not to mention the advancement in technology that make access like that easier than ever.
In the very recent news Rick Perry, the Governor of the State of Texas, is officially the leader in signing the very important bill, in Texas called HB 2268, and it requires any state and law enforcement to stay away from private electronic storage. For those who have not been aware, Government spying on our private electronic e-mails is nothing new. In the early ages of e-mail, messages were downloaded from a local host which did not keep them on the server for very long. Emails were deemed unimportant if a while old. But in this world we live in with 15 gigabytes of cloud storage automatically provided with your Google email account, its quite recoverable. Hope there will be petitions soon that we can sign to urge the U.S. congress to sign such a bill. Now if only we can get our phone calls and messages kept to ourselves!
I couldn’t get more LAST BUT NOT LEAST if I tried. Microsoft's Xbox announced just days after flutters of countless interviews regarding DRM policies on the console, everything we hated about it is being reversed! This means Microsoft might have been listening! Maybe they realized that it was too risky to piss everyone off this much! To add more essence of irony, words from spokesman Major Nelson included “No, we will not change anything about it, we are very proud of the system”, and that was this week! Similar to society’s realization of the NSA spy acts, it is the perfect example of a company realizing they did the wrong thing.
