Taking a second effort at the smart wearable market, Sony has announced this week the launch of the updated version of their SmartWatch. While SmartWatch2 is similar to its predecessor, meaning it is competent of answering texts, calls, reading emails etc, the modified version is alleged to not only have more features, but they will be easier to use. With Sony's first attempt things did not go so well, mainly due to the high price margin and some awkwardness in the software.
Along with its fresh sleek and handsome new body design, aluminum made and water resistant, the stainless steel armband it comes with is easily swapped with any style the user may prefer! Additionally, the screen went from 1.3 to 1.6 inches for the latest model, along with a 220 by 176 pixel display. Sony calls it a ”multifunctional watch, notifier, Android app interface and phone remote control, an all-in-one”. When your phone is out of reach, you can complete most tasks with just the watch.
With specs like this, could it be the latest Apple smartwatch competitor? Possibly. It is quite a beauty, very simple touch screen that is easy to use and navigate. Scrolling is easy and convenient if your Android device is out of reach, tossing through missed texts, calls or emails is a go. The SmartWatch2 also features support for NFC and Bluetooth 3.0; easily allowing compatibility with Android 4.0 and up.
Battery life, you ask? Well, important question because it claimed to have the longest battery life of any smartwatch on the current market (yes that includes Pebble). When it does reach the time to recharge, unlike the last version, the SmartWatch2 charges with a simple standard micro USB. The device also offers cool features such as home, back and menu interface keys similar to Android phones.
Unfortunately not yet available for iOS, overall the improvements of the new Sony product are worth being excited for. With an updated interface and ease in usability, Sony is hoping to rectify the previous gens complaints by creating an overall smooth and very easy to use Android companion. Smartwatch2 is expected be in stores September of this year, yet no word of price has come up. Because the previous watch's 149.99 cost was alleged a bit too high, there is hope for a drop in price as icing on the cake.
