E22- Microsoft Drops Fees, Sony’s Smartwatch2 & Ear Implant | Red-Headed Geek Show

A man named Rich Lee is an individual who has become the first person to surgically implant a magnet into his ear for it to work as headphones. Inserted into his tragus is the magnet and around his neck is a coil device. The coil causes a magnetic field creating sound waves. As a man who dabbles in body modification, Lee is on his way in pursuing other methods of what is called “grinding”. When interviewed about the topic of using the device to hear personal conversations, Lee expressed his opinion that it is far from breaking any law, considering how PRISM and the NSA have been exposed lately.

Microsoft recently dropped fees that are used against game developers when their patches or new games are released. The charges are used to ensure games are well-made, up to certification requirements and seen as important enough to release. However the charges are outrageous, at up to forty thousand dollars each time. Many indie and small developers simply cannot afford such charges, which makes one wonder how many good games have yet to see the light of day due to this policy. The charges are now officially dropped, with the exception of companies trying to submit games that do not pass standards.

Speaking of Microsoft, a Kickstarter campaign recently passed its goal for funding  an Xbox Laptop console. At over 29 thousand dollars worth of backing, a company called Techjango from Austin, Texas are excited about their Xbox 360 gaming device. With various do-it-yourself projects attempted using Xbox hardware, Techjango's product is fully portable and self-assemble ready. The case itself is partially assembled by a 3D printer, also using high quality 3mm black acrylic for the panels. The custom touch interface is based on the Arduino processor. With the price tag of almost a grand for the fully assembled version and about half for the kit, the company is very confident in future sales.

Sony' Smartwatch2 was announced just this week. Smartwatch2 looks similar to the prior model, which didn't make the cut due to high price and some software clumsiness. As an Android companion, or even dubbed as a second screen for your device, its launch this week appears promising. The current model has a larger screen with higher resolution, the band is stainless steel yet replaceable. It is easy to use, sleek and could just be the latest Apple  iWatch competitor.
