The Red Pitaya is a Powerful Tech Instrument Not Limited to Research Labs!

Red pitaya 1Finally! An open source, measurement and control tool to supercede high-priced lab and industry instruments! Currently a Kickstarter project that could become massive if successful, the Red Pitaya is not just a board, rather a reconfigurable measuring board, the size of a credit card, that can turn any computer, tablet, or smartphone into a genuine lab-equivalent tool! Also, so cheap and powerful, the Red Pitaya's ecosystem is exotic; as it serves for educating, experiencing and discovering countless applications.

The team is a group of very passionate engineers with over 40 years of experience in designing complex hardware and software products, in particular robotics and high performance diagnostics. As well as their partner team Instrumentation Technologies d.d., who are experts in one of the most intricate machines, particle accelerators. It's ecosystem includes hardware, FPGA, software and graphical user interface for a completely different measuring experience with no code writing. The board itself has a dual core ARM Cortex chip including two analog inputs and 2 outputs, 16 digital GPIO lines and 4 pairs of digital signals for serial data transfer. Also supports Ethernet, includes DDR2 DRAM and Micro SD slot.

Red PitayaThe second aspect to the Pitaya ecosystem is Bazaar, their free of charge cloud marketplace of open source T&M applications, ready for immediate use with the click of a button. The set includes spectrum analyzer, PID controller, frequency response analyzer, oscilloscope and arbitrary signal generator. Any web browser from laptop or tablet supports Bazaar. Finally, Backyard, the third part to the Pitaya ecosystem is used as an organized facility for open source code and tools needed to create applications.

The Red Pitaya vision is to enable anyone interested to use their favorite technologies in an affordable and realistic way by giving them the power to “conduct his own education, discover his own inspiration, set up his own environment, and share his ideas with whoever is interested”. Even better, with the pre-order price tag of only $299, the Kickstarter fundraiser project is perfect for electronics enthusiasts, students or anyone who want to start programming and publishing work in Bazaar.
