E28 – WigWag, Fairywren Mini-ITX, 3D Systems Cubify & The Internet of Things | Red Headed Geek Show

This internet of things concept is rapidly growing, especially in the case of making your home smart and responsive. This is not a very easy thing to do, having gadgets communicate easily with one another, yet with WigWag it is made easily possible through the use of Wi-Fi and frequencies. This “When happens, then do” rule is how WigWag responds and reacts to your request. Requests can be anything from when it gets colder outside, alert your smartphone and you can tell your A/C to turn down. The demands are essentially endless because WigWag uses a standard programming language which allows other software enthusiasts to create any apps they desire. Another neat aspect is if you were to desire a notification if your plants were too dry and its time for watering that is possible with WigWag's third party adapter compatibility. As a three part system it uses sensor blocks to be put around your home, relay for connection between the blocks and your phone or computer and finally a cloud service and app package!

3D systems brand new product Cubify Sculpt. Its basically a powerful virtual clay sculpting took that takes complex, 3D design into a simple and oh so intuitive experience. Like Photoshop for 3D printing! It sets other programs, like Zbrush or Blender, apart due to not having such a steep learning curve as many other programs. Many people want to dabble in 3D design and printing but don't know where to begin. Sculpt is the perfect name for this because you are basically given a lump of virtual clay to play with, and because of the many tools provided, you can remove material, smooth, elongate, and blend at your own will. Finally, you can import a 3D file and play with it in any way you desire. When you’re all done, either print it yourself or send it to the company to have it printed with one of their industrial devices!

Fairywren is a Kickstarter campaign to make the Mini-ITX for the Raspberry Pi! Fairywren is made by GeekRoo from Australia and has been developed to ease the frustrated with all the components that aren't included with your Pi. As you know, for a fully functioning system you need to find 5V micro-USB power supply, SD card, keyboard, mouse, network connection. Don't forget the possible USB hub, external hard drive, and, uh monitor? It can be a true wreck to look at. So they developed the perfect motherboard to fit all the things you need for your fully functioning computer. An Xbee socket is built in as well as Arduino Uno, Arduino mounting holes, very nice looking casing, etc. GeekRoo successfully outdid their pledge, you can check out their product in their Kickstarter page here.
