Most of our orders are from repeat customers. Parts-People began as a small company 20 years ago in an extra bedroom of my house. I had saved a small sum of money to purchase some computer parts and began selling them on eBay. After a few months I realized that people needed a place to go for Dell parts so I began building our website. Since we are located in Austin, Texas, where Dell.com was founded, I was able to set up a solid supply line with Dell. From the start, we focused on customer satisfaction and selling quality parts. We have grown a lot since 2002 but still and always the customer will come first. You will find that we go above and beyond with every order and offer free resources and support before and after the sale.

It is finally time! Makerbot has opened up pre-orders for their brand new Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner, something they have been teasing us with for months now. Ever thought Thingiverse didn't have that perfect pair of earrings or figurine you wanted? Not surprising. What about coming up with code yourself? If you are not up to par with that sort of CAD or knowledge, the solution is most definitely here. If the name or image isn't jogging your memory, the Makerbot Digitizer device was originally announced at SXSW back in March, here in Austin. Noted by CEO Bre Pettis, "This is another innovative product for visionaries, early adopters, experimenters, educators, creative hobbyists, 3D sculptors, organic modelers, designers, and architects who want to be the first to become an expert in Desktop 3D Scanning". Undoubtedly excited to unveil this incredible 3D laser scanner, their latest invention makes for an easier way for anyone who enjoys 3D design to tap into their creative imagination and come out with a unique model.
Simple yet sophisticated, it essentially takes a couple clicks to print to your hearts desire, and that is what makes the Digitizer the latest breakthrough so far. Without any need for 3D software, designing or CAD experience what-so-ever, all you do is place the object you're interesting in onto the round table and turn on the Makerbot. Once nice and fired up, lasers will scan the complete surface of your object where it is then matched up with a full list of data points representing it's geometry. In a whopping twelve minutes or so, the device outputs an STL file which is then ready to be sent to any 3D printer, (although optimized to work with Makerbot Makerware and Thingiverse). Perhaps you would like to modify or tweak the design, the file can be easily improved with third party modeling programs, also supporting STL. The Digitizer can scan objects up to an 8 inch wide and tall ratio and weigh up to 6.6 pounds. Countless possibilities for creating some truly unique and beautiful designs! Additionally, what a treat for any 3D designer to have such power at their own fingertips, without the use of code or relying on code providers.
Limitations are also duly noted, however. Scanning certain objects that are shiny, fuzzy, reflective, or dark in color may not produce that well. It is also important to use the scanner in a well-lit room. Another comment from the company stated the Digitizer, although so very simple to use, is not for everyone because it is an expensive product. For those who are serious about becoming a 3D pioneer, the device is a fantastic addition to their home or office. Because the price tag will run for $1,400 with an extra $150 for MakerCare, enthusiasts should reach for this product with a firm and serious hand. Many are well aware the expense of starting up a 3D printing environment. The Digitizer took it to a game-changing level of personalizing and modifying to your own liking. Therefore, all those knick-knacks and gift ideas you have been wanting to print you now can! Thank you Makerbot, for making the process of 3D printing as accessible and easy as possible. Shipping expected mid-October and pre-ordering from the Makerbot website are officially up and ready.
