Dell’s New Latitude 3000, 5000, & 7000 Series Business Ultrabooks Set New Standards with Security & Functionality

Latitude 7000Dell rolled out the latest in their line of business laptops and Ultrabooks this week. The new lineup is definitely geared towards diversity, and offers consumers an entry-level 3000 model, a “task working” 5000, and finally a souped-up 7000 that is designed for what they call a “mixed product environment”. One of the primary goals in the design of the new Latitude line was to aid individuals in the “choose your own device” movement currently taking place in the workplace, and Dell has added some standard features that will allow you to do just that.

Latitude 3000The Latitude 3000 series includes two entry-level laptops whose design is ideal for education and small business. It comes in a 14-inch screen, 21mm thick version as well as a 15.6-inch screen, 25mm thick option. Both come standard with anti-glare LCD screens and optional touch displays. Their Haswell processors are equipped with business class discrete graphics and up to 2GB of video memory for more processing power. The Latitude 3000 will be available for purchase September 12th starting at $599.

Latitude 5000Next up is the Latitude 5000 series, a laptop built for reliability and mobile productivity. Both the 14.1-inch and 15.6-inch display options come equipped with Intel Core i7 ultra low voltage processors for extended battery life and SSD (Performance Solid State Hybrid Drive) options. Gorilla Glass NBT on the touch display ensures optimal brightness and prevents damage to the screen, while mobile broadband, Bluetooth and Wireless LAN options allow this series to have mobile connectivity nearly anywhere. Dell has yet to release the prices for this series, but they will be available sometime in October.

Now here’s where things start to get really good. Dell stated that their Latitude 7000 series are “the world’s most secure ultrabooks with best-in-class endpoint security solutions”. It’s a pretty bold statement, but it looks like they’re backing it up. The 7000 series offers the highest level of FIPS 140-2 (level 3) certification for system disk encryption and “advanced authentication and malware protection from a single source”. Additionally, they utilize Intel’s vPro extensions, making it easier for IT managers to configure the system for corporate needs. Available in both a 12- and 14-inch model, this amazing powerbook comes standard with a 3-cell battery rated for around 8.5 hours of runtime – and it’s swappable! Available now worldwide, the Latitude 7000 series Ultrabooks start at around $1,049 (touch-enabled versions will be available starting September 12th).

Latitude 7000-1Regardless of which series or price point best suits you, Dell has ensured that you are buying a sleek, durable, secure machine. All models are powered by Intel fourth-generation Haswell processors and run on Windows 8. Their makeup consists of of brushed aluminum, reinforced magnesium alloy, strong steel hinges, woven carbon, durable powder-coated undersides, spill-resistant keyboards and LCD seals. Furthering their durability, each model comes standard with StrikeZone shock absorbers, Fast Response Free-Fall sensors and rubber hard drive isolation. While Dell may have appeared to be immersed in buyout battles, that has apparently not prevented them from launching a seductively appealing new line of super computers.
