Long before Windows 8 was released, ASUS was the first to produce what is essentially a hybrid computer; a tablet that morphs into a laptop when docked. Grabbing attention of those who have been desiring a duel purposed laptop, a truly new and unique move was made by ASUS this week. At the technology extravaganza IFA in Berlin, the new ASUS Transformer Book Trio was unveiled. Even more impressive, the Trio runs both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean. Why would one want both operating systems to chose from? Portability and power! With Windows 8, any software you want to install you may, on the other hand Android is there to offer the simplified option of a touch screen tablet, perfect for carrying around and completing simple tasks when on-the-go.

Don't be fooled by that last statement, however, as both types of software are touch screen compatible, even when in laptop mode. A rarity for Android, the tablet's 11.6 inch, 1080p screen runs Android on Intel's Atom Z2760 platform. The tablet and screen also pack 2GB of LP DDR2 RAM, ranging from 16 to 64 GB of storage. Dock the laptop to see magic happen, with a second Intel Haswell-based Core i7 processor residing in the keyboard, as well as extra I/O ports and a larger built-in battery. During the almighty PC/keyboard connection, a transformation to 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 1TB hard drive is created. By default, Haswell and Windows 8 take over during the dock, making a lovely and fully-functional Windows 8 laptop in your hands (also noting that without the dock, the tablet will not run Haswell). You won't believe the ease of switch between operating systems: just the click of a “Trio” button located on the keyboard dock. And because both systems share the storage on the tablet, you can do almost anything you want in each mode.

The most versatile tablet/laptop in the Android or Windows market is the Trio, and the fact that the two operating systems allow for that much more functionality and power, the best of both worlds are in one (detachable) package. Battery life is separately dispersed in each half, with Android working up to 13 entire hours and Windows just 5 hours. The tablet also supplies a 5 Mp camera, 1080p video capability, and a 720p high-def front facing web cam. The package of power, however, could seem heavy to some, with the keyboard's weight of 1kg and the tablet's 700 grams. Not to fret, because the most obvious perk to the Trio is the option to carry the docked version or just your tablet around. Expected to go on sale in October, no announcements of price have been leaked besides the word “competitive”. But with all it has to offer, could you expect it to be cheap?
