Hey guys. So back in October Dell announced the impending arrival of their new tablets and they are all here. Dells three Venue Tablet series are the 7, 8 and 8 Pro. To start off lets delve into the Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8. As far as price goes, these devices will set you back $149 to $179, depending on which one you end up choosing. Right off the bat, between these two, at all actually. Both tablets run Android 4.2.2, also known as Jelly Bean. In addition, that Android 4.3 KitKat should be arriving soon, and if so, both will be primed and suited for KitKat.
Both tablets have a 1280 by 800 display, yet the difference here only comes with the screen size, and its all said in the name. The Dell Venue 7 is 7 inches and Venue 8 is 8 inches. Although both of these guys run an Intel Atom Clover Trail + processor, the Venue 7 does differ a teensy bit –it runs a dual-core Z2560 chip which can reach speeds up to 1.6 Ghz and 1 meg cache. The Venue 8, as expected, is a little faster, running a dual core Z2580 chip maxing out at 2 Ghz and also 1 meg cache. You guys can decide if that extra 30 bux is worth the 8's faster processor. Each supports Wi-Fi connectivity up to wireless N, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Apart from these descriptions, everything else (spec-wise) is pretty similar. Both tablets are packed with 2GB of memory, come with 16 GB of storage with an optional upgrade to 32 via an included Micro SD slot. The 7 provides .3 Mp for the front and the primary back camera is 3 Mp. Besides that Micro SD slot, there is a micro USB as well. The curved edges are enjoyable and easy to hold, weighing in at only .69 lbs. The Dell Venue 8, however, provides 2 Mp for the front and the back camera supports 5 Mp. It also has that same Micro SD slot and micro USB, weighing in at .82 lbs.
Now for the comparison between the Venue 8 And 8 Pro. The major difference to note, immediately is the operating system. It runs Windows 8.1 rather than Android, also running Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013. The Venue 8 Pro is 8 inches like its little brother, has the same 1280 by 800 res, but because of the different OS, the cost is higher. The 8 Pro runs for $299 versus $179. It's also faster, with that Intel Atom processor running a Z3740D chip, 2 megs cache and 1.8 Ghz. Like the others, it has 2Gb internal memory, a 32 and upgradable 64 gig version. The front facing camera is nicer, giving 1.2 Mp and the primary giving 5. Very beautiful and sturdy, yet light at .87 pounds, obviously the heaviest out of all three but the back has this nice rugged grip. All the venue tablets are thin, the right weight for their size and narrow enough to hold in one hand. They all have rounded edges and a nice comfy feel. The display resolutions for all these guys are great for the price and the sizes. The only complaints I have upon playing with all three is the lack of kickstand or keyboard dock included. Although the kickstand is sold-separately, I hope to see a keyboard dock in the future.
