Bang & Olufsen Debut BeoVision Avant TV – “The One That Moves”

AvantTVAs our television options become increasingly high-tech, many companies are struggling to stay ahead of the curve and stand out among the competition. Electronic giants like Sony and Samsung have debuted some pretty fantastic 4K and UHD options this year, as well as Philips and Panasonic. For the most part, these 55- and 65-inch LCD Ultra High Definition TV’s are offering a similar line-up of features, each claiming to have one area in which it excels beyond the rest. But for the most part, they are all slightly different versions of the same pricy product. That is not the case with Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision Avant, a TV that is bringing luxury and convenience to your living room in a whole new way.

AvantTV1The most stunning feature of the BeoVision Avant is that it conforms to its room, rather than the room conforming to it. Here’s what I mean by that – in most homes, it has long been standard operating procedure to place the television in the most ideal spot in the room (or in the days before wireless cable and internet, the only spot in the room that it could go)and then decide on furniture placement based on where the TV was. Bang & Olufsen have completely changed that notion with the Avant, which makes viewing ideal no matter where the TV or the viewer is in a room.

AvantTV3The first thing you’ll notice when powering on the Avant is a rotating stand that points the TV in the direction of your choosing, while also bringing it away from the wall and toward the current viewer. The goal here is to no longer have the TV be the main focus of a room – when it is no longer in use, it quietly and conveniently tucks itself away. The active movement is controlled by a programmable remote, which is capable of remembering setting and angle preferences for each individual member of the family – pretty smart. An added bonus? That same remote comes pre-programmed to control thousands of other devices, meaning it could end up being the only remote you need in your home.

AvantTV2The actual settings of the television are about what you would expect to find from a top-of-the-line electronics company like Bang & Olufsen. It’s a 55-inch Ultra High Definition 4K television with the usual connectivity options – 5 HDMI, 2 USB, plus Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Where it further sets itself apart is in how it automatically adapts to its surroundings. Automatic Picture Control with Chromatic Room Adaptation adjusts the picture performance to the current light conditions in the room it is housed in. This, says Bang & Olufsen, ensures that the colors are always rich and accurate – it even takes into consideration the color of the room it is in.

As you can probably imagine, the sound system is top-notch as well. Comprised of a trio of tweeter/midrange pairs as well as a 4-inch woofer that emerge from the bottom of the TV, plus a 6-inch bass driver in back, you can bet that you’re going to get audio that is not only deep and rich sounding, but loud.

Of course, all these fancy specs mean exactly what you think they do – a big, fat price tag. The TV alone will set you back roughly $8,000, and that doesn’t even include the motorized stands that makes the Avant so incredible in the first place. There are a few options for mounting, including a circular floor stand, a wall mount and even a table stand for you old-fashioned girls. The prices for the moving stands start out at a whopping $895 – but honestly, if you’ve already sprung for the $8,000 television set, what’s another grand in the bucket, right?
