MIT and NASA researchers will be using 4 telescopes based in New Mexico that send an uplink signal straight up to a satellite that orbits the moon.
Microsoft will be providing a Star Trek universal translator service for Skype, which can understand spoken words and translate them into another language. The translator will be available for Windows 8 this year, then also available for other platforms soon. This is a good move to keep Skype in the competitive market.
Google is showing its latest prototypes of its self-driving, driver-less car. The new prototypes take this idea to the next level by taking out any manual human participation. There is no driver participation needed. Actually, all the occupant can do is push a button to start or stop the vehicle, as well as give it your destination. Technology inside the car is based on computer programs that can make predictions regarding surrounding objects; sensors that contain cameras and radar for evaluating real-time occurrences. Apparently, the car can only reach up to 25 miles per hour, and will be able to see 600 feet in all directions.
Google is coming to terms with its lack of diversity among its workforce by stating “We’re not where we want to be when it comes to diversity...We’ve always been reluctant to publish numbers about the diversity of our workforce at Google".The report states that 70 percent of Google staff are men, and that 61 percent are white. In fact, Government reports on other major tech companies obtained by CNNMoney last year show similar lack of diversity among the workforces of five other other major tech companies: Cisco, Intel, Dell, eBay and Ingram Micro.
