I had saved a small sum of money to purchase some computer parts and began selling them on eBay. After a few months I realized that people needed a place to go for Dell parts so I began building our website. Since we are located in Austin, Texas, where Dell.com was founded, I was able to set up a solid supply line with Dell. From the start, we focused on customer satisfaction and selling quality parts. It seems like every week there is a new watch or ring being touted as having the ability to do just one more thing than its predecessor, or to do it a little faster from a smaller package. The harsh truth of the matter is though, most of them are ugly. That’s right, I’ve said it. They are clunky, generic, for the most part unable to be customized to the wearer and, at the end of the day, far more geek than chic. Journalist-turned-entrepreneur Jing Zhou saw this unfulfilled sect of the market and came up with the idea for a bangle called Elemoon. Ladies – this one’s for you.
The Elemoon bangle looks very much like the plastic or metal bracelets that most women have sitting in multi-colored stacks in their jewelry boxes. Sitting beneath the surface, though, is an array of colored LEDs set within the polymer and copper or stainless steel band. The most enticing aspect of the bangle, from a fashion perspective, is its ability to match your clothes. The pattern displayed on the face of the bangle can be customized to a user-created design, while a color matching feature offered in the companion app can help the wearer match the color of the bracelet to the color of an outfit. The companion app can even configure the bracelet’s LED to match a photographed image.
The Elemoon is more than just a pretty face, though. While it may not pack the technological punch of your standard smartwatch, for example, that’s not really what it’s going for. It does just enough in a pretty package to make it appealing to the niche it’s targeted at – women who care about fashion and functionality, with a heavier emphasis on the former. The Elemoon will provide icon-based call and message notifications to the chic LED display using Bluetooth technology. Additionally, the bangle offers a ‘find your phone’ feature which, for space cadets like me, makes it almost worth it in itself. Rubbing the touch-sensitive display surface of the bracelet will send an audio notification to the Bluetooth-linked smartphone, causing it to ring in an effort to help you locate it.
Fashion-forward geeks can nab their own Elemoon by pledging $199 to the Kickstarter campaign. At the time of publication, the project had already secured nearly $60,000 of its $100,000 goal with 38 days still to go. If all goes according to plan, creator Jing Zhou hopes to have the first round of orders out by February of next year, and is even working with developers to add fitness tracking features to the next generation of the Elemoon bangle.
