Zcan Wireless 2-in-1 Scanning Mouse

ZcanScannerImagine not needing to attack all the intricacies that is the scanning machine. What if you could simply glide something over the paper and scan as you go? I feel like I have had an idea like this trapped in my mind forever, always wishing the scanner was an easier instrument to use. Hong Kong-based company Design to Innovation (DTOI), has developed what is being called the world's first 2-in-1 wireless scanner mouse. It looks, acts, and feels like a standard optical mouse, but leaves the cord behind. Zcan Wireless is packed with a miniaturized scanner, letting you transform any document into a digital copy instantly.

ZcanScanner1Sure, mice that double as scanners aren't new. We have actually seen quite a number over the past few years, such as LG's LSM-100, and Windows IRIScan mouse. What's different about Zcan is the technology, which has been miniaturized to the point where a battery and wireless communications technology can be stuffed inside, all remaining wireless. The Zcan Wireless project has been on Indiegogo for less than a month and has already reached over $93,000 in funding (its goal was a mere $30,000).

ZcanScanner2According to the company, Zcan is the must-have gadget for anyone with an iPad, Macbook, tablet, or laptop. Not everyone realizes the luxuries of scanning. Scanning can be used to retrieve important documents, sure, but what about backing up your receipts, photos, and contracts anytime and anywhere? Think of it like painting. Just swipe back and forth over the text or image that you want and instantly see it on the computer monitor or laptop screen. Plus, scanned information becomes searchable, sharable, translatable to speech, and importable to Excel or text for editing.

Zcan communicates wirelessly via 2.4 GHz frequency when used as a mouse and connects to a computer via Wi-Fi for scanning. A rechargeable lithium battery powers Zcan, and it features SLAM Scan software that processes each scan in real-time. It is compatible with Windows 7 and 8, Mac OS X 10.6 or higher, third-gen iPad, second-gen iPad Mini, as well as iPhone 5/5S. An early pledge of $79 will treat you to Zcan, with shipping expect in October.
