I had saved a small sum of money to purchase some computer parts and began selling them on eBay. After a few months I realized that people needed a place to go for Dell parts so I began building our website. Since we are located in Austin, Texas, where Dell.com was founded, I was able to set up a solid supply line with Dell. From the start, we focused on customer satisfaction and selling quality parts. Motorola has been on a real roll lately as far as must-have geeky gadgets go, but this week’s release is a real doozy. There is possibly no more frustrating feeling on the planet than trying to race out your door just in the nick of time, only to find your keys or smartphone aren’t where you normally leave them – I like to call these little instances “insta-lates” (AKA pre-road ragers, head-balders, day-ruiners). The loss of something so integral to your daily travel or productivity so early on can set a negative tone for your entire day before you ever leave the house. Fellow basket cases, Motorola feels your pain. That’s why they created the Keylink, a $25 keychain that takes some of the heat off of you and makes your keys and smartphone keep track of each other.
The Keylink dongle can be added directly onto your keychain and pairs with the Motorola Connect app for your iOS or Android (app available for download through iTunes and Google Play). If you lose your keys, opening the Motorola Connect app on your smartphone and pushing a button will cause your keys to begin singing. Should you lose the smartphone itself, simply squeeze the Keylink and it will trigger your phone to ring from up to 100 feet away. Lost both? Well, then you’re left to the least successful searching device of all – your own brain and eyes. (Quick Tip from an expert at losing things – check the freezer. I have no idea how things end up there, but they do. Trust me.)
As an added bonus, Motorola has added an optional feature that allows the key fob to automatically unlock your phone whenever the handset is near, and safeguard it when it isn’t. For extra peace of mind, the Keylink was made to be splash-proof. Not waterproof, mind you, so no swimming with it in your pocket; but no need to run your keys to a dry bag of rice if you spill a little coffee on it. It uses a standard coin cell battery that lasts a full year and is user replaceable, and the Keylink itself can be ordered now through Motorola’s website or at most T-Mobile locations.
