Thingsee One, The Worlds First Smart Developer Device for IoT Projects

ThingseeOneFounded by a group of ex-Nokia employees in September 2012, Finland based company Haltian Ltd. is creating the worlds first smart developer device for Internet of Things projects, called Thingsee One. Similar to what the Raspberry Pi has done for the computer developer market, Thingsee One is a hardware platform that looks to help developers bring their IoT ideas to life. Since hardware for IoT devices is costly and takes a lot of work to develop, Thingsee One will save developers time and money by offering a reasonably priced hardware kit to developers that are seeking to create any variety of Internet of Things projects. Designed for mobility with cellular connectivity, Haltian boasts Thingsee’s unlimited ways to use and that it works right out of the box for any idea that uses any kind of sensor based service.

ThingseeOne1Thingsee One can be used right out of the box by configuring the device to the mobile app. Shaped like a fanny pack, it features a multitude of sensors to measure just about anything you would need for a IoT project: a 3D accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, GPS location sensor, and sensors that measure temperature, humidity and pressure. Internally, it includes 2G radio, rather than Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, for connecting to smartphones (Wired). It's durable, shock and water resistant, and its battery lasts up to a year. The long battery life is thanks to its sensors being optimized to conserve energy when not needed.

ThingseeOne2The project ideas for Thingsee One are unlimited. On its own, you can use its sensors to make various measurements of your surroundings. For example, put it on your son's car and let GPS track your teen's driving speed limit, then notify you when he is going too fast. Other examples include measuring velocity in fast cars, making weather balloons, and data collection for maps.

The project started off as a real time shipment tracking project, but the demand for high quality hardware for IoT projects is high, so Haltian decided to make Thingsee available for anyone who wants to build their own IoT device. Haltian is looking to earn $99,000 on Kickstarter in order raise enough to start large scale manufacturing of Thingsee One.
