Make Your Bike More Functional with the Cobi Hub

CobiHubThe idea of a smart bike might sound a bit strange at first, but just think of it like having a smart car. Smart bikes are human-powered, with electronic systems built in to give extra functions like navigation, theft, and directional lighting (Gizmag). There are plenty of smart bicycles out there, but that doesn't mean you want to spend your hard earned cash on one. According to a company called iCradle, what better way to make your bike a smart one than by utilizing something you already have? With Cobi, you can create a very new bike riding experience all by using your smartphone as a dock, along with a little help from a variety of bike accessories.

So start using the Cobi Hub, an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S4/S5, or Google Nexus 5 can be snapped into the IPX-6 water-resistant Cobi case, which then fits into the actual Hub, locked onto the handlebars. The Hub's connection allows the smartphone to charged via the Hub's built-in battery (Cnet). Then, with Cobi smartphone app, displayed on the smartphone and controlled via thumb controller, Cobi provides a variety of functions for riders.

With a total of over “100 intelligent features” added to any bike, Cobi's list of helpful functions goes on and on. From a speedometer, barometer, weather updates, navigation, dynamic lighting, to calling a friend or playing a music track, this is probably more functionality than you'd ever expect while riding a bike. Let us not forget about those terrible bike thieves (that seem to be everywhere). Cobi's security system keeps the Hub locked to your bike, and will only unlock for you.

Currently seeking $100,000 on Kickstarter, the team at iCradle is offering the Cobi Hub for a pledge of $159 for the early bird standard set. After that, $179 will get you a standard kit, including the Hub, mount, and thumb controller. Or if you desire the entire package with all the accessories, that will cost $225.
