I first heard about Dell’s new Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 back in June and at the time, testers were giving it great reviews. For the price, this convertible-hybrid laptop offers a happy medium for users torn between the convenience of a tablet and the functional uses provided by a laptop. Now that these sleek little convertibles have finally hit the market, it looks like Dell has succeeded in delivering the best of both worlds..

As you’ve probably gathered, each configuration of these 2-in-1’s moves easily from a laptop to a flat, tablet-like position that can be used with a stylus. All models come standard with a 13.3-inch touch screen, Windows 8.1, and aside from the most affordable version, 5^th generation Intel Core i5 processors. The screens are HD Truelife LED-backlit touch displays with wide viewing angles; the entry level models have a 1366 x 768-pixel screen, while the pricier models sport the full 1080p FHD touchscreen. As for connectivity, Dell knows what its users need and outfitted each version with a full-size HDMI 1.4a, two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port. And to make toting this multi-tasking gadget around just a little easier, Dell made it thin and light – all models weigh in at 3.68 pounds and are only ¾-inch thick.

The base model will run you a modest $599.99 and has a 4^th generation Intel Core i3 Processor, 4GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive and Intel HD graphics 4400. The next tier up is a $729.99 model with a 5^th generation Intel Core i5 Processor, 4GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive and an Intel HD graphics 5500 video card. For just a little bit more, you can spring for the $799.99 or $849.99 models, both of which sport 8GB of memory, 500GB hard drives, Intel HD Graphics 5500 video cards, and 5^th generation Intel core i5 and i7 processors, respectively. The Inspiron 13 7000 Series Special Edition (priced at $799.99) even comes with a Bluetooth speaker, a reasonable add-on considering how weak the speakers generally are on 13-inch systems.

All in all, this convertible notebook is a crowd pleaser with a very reasonable price tag for its genre. Plus, you won’t have to worry too much about this little hybrid laptop while taking it on-the-go. One of the many endurance tests that Dell submitted the Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1’s to was harsh short-term heat conditions, and the notebook stood up to temperatures up to 149 degrees Fahrenheit.
