Dell Announces Their First-Ever Gaming Monitor with G-Sync Technology

DellG-SyncMonitorS2716DGDell, a longtime leader in the desktop PC world, just added a new accessory to their extensive line of gaming machines in the form of a 27” G-Sync-enabled gaming monitor. The company is already at the top of several “Best of” lists for their Alienware gaming consoles, and has even been named the world’s #1 monitor brand for the last two consecutive years according to the NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report. So, it stands to reason that they would eventually couple their gaming PC and monitor accolades to create the ideal gaming monitor, especially now that NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology (which helps to eliminate common tearing and stuttering issues often affiliated with PC and laptop gaming) is becoming a PC gaming standard.

DellG-SyncMonitorS2716DG1Dell promises that the S2716DG will deliver “unrivaled gameplay with a smooth and responsive view”. Fueling that promise is a 2560x1440 screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and G-Sync variable-refresh-rate technology, which combined add up to a super-fast 1 millisecond response time. There is no word yet on whether the monitor uses a TN or IPS panel, but TN seems more likely given the rapid response rate. To make sure that your viewing angle is always optimized, Dell has stacked the monitor with every possible adjustment option including tilt, pivot, swivel and of course, height. It’s not lacking in the connectivity department either, with an included DisplayPort 1.2 connection, HDMI 1.4a, four USB 3.0 ports, USB upstream, and both line and headphone outputs.

DellG-SyncMonitorS2716DG2If you’re a gamer that loves high-end gadgets then you already know that gaming-specific technology does not come cheap, and the S2716DG is no exception - Dell has recommended an $800 asking price for their new gaming monitor when it becomes available October 20th. While that is quite the chunk of change, it is still on par with other gaming monitors featuring similar specs; especially those that employ NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology. If that price tag is way too rich for your blood, Dell has also announced an affordable, curved 27-inch display with a suggested asking price of only $400, roughly half that of its G-Sync-equipped big brother. As you can probably guess, it doesn’t come with a promised 1 millisecond response time or lightning-quick refresh rate, but it does still appear to be a pretty solid curved monitor by all other standards; and at only $400, it won’t break the bank.
