More and more full-throttled notebooks are starting to shine a light on a new truth- the days of big desktops being the prerequisite for good gaming are over. Not only is it possible to get fully loaded gaming specs in a small package, but you can get the same performance. Now, when I say small package, I don’t mean MacBook Air small. In fact, some of these gaming laptops are going to be a bit bulky, considering they are housing a lot of serious hardware, fans, and battery. They can also be pricey. More or less, this is something you’ll have to deal with if you’re a brand name lover. Speaking of big names in computing, reviews for Asus’ G752 gaming notebook are out, and this monster of a laptop comes sporting a radical design, Intel processing power, and a unique water-cooling system.

Featured as the flagship product in the Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) lineup, this 17.3-inch laptop features a 4K IPS display, a flashy aluminum exterior with a giant flared vent (which is quite visually appealing compared to its predecessor’s blake polymer finish), and an orange trim with red LED lights. The Asus G752 is not the type of laptop you just throw in a messenger bag and run out the door. It measures 16.85 x 13.15 x 2.09 inches, and weighs a hefty 9.6 pounds. You don’t want to drop this thing, it’s huge and it’s intimidating, and you might make it mad.

Then comes the specs. The flagship Asus G752 came with a very nice upgrade, now relying on Intel Skylake for processing power. These high-performing chips come in a 2.6GHz Core i7-6700HQ version and a 2.7GHz Core i7 6820HK version, able to clock at speeds of up to 3.5GHz and 3.6GHz. If you’re wondering whether this is impressive, it is. Graphics-wise, the gaming notebook will be using Nvidia’s GTX 965M, 970M, and 980M graphics cards, a series which has been highly rated and anticipated. Finally, the Asus G752 can support up to 64GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and up to a 1TB hard drive (Laptop Mag).

Benchmark tests have shown that the Asus G752 can handle just about anything. You should get a lovely 60 frames per second even in the most hectic of gaming scenarios. There is even a vapor chamber cooling system, rather than heat pipes, that acts as a reservoir for cooling liquid. The technology is said to be “more efficient at dispersing heat” (Tech Radar).

With the G752, you’ll also get three USB 3.0’s, a 2-in-1 card reader, Ethernet port, HDMI port, headphone and mic, one USB Type-C, Thunderbolt, and a Super-Multi DVD drive. The build may be large (and a bit extraterrestrial), but Asus takes advantage of surface area by giving its G752 gaming notebook its very own sense of style. As for its weight, it isn’t a huge deal, notebook gamers are used to the downgrade in portability in exchange for the upgrade in performance and graphics. Pricing depends on configuration, starting at $1,499 for the base model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
