We know about Nvidia’s Pascal graphic technology. Just released in April with the GP100 chip, and now known as the GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 brands, so far we’ve only seen this particular architecture on desktop computers. Yet, it looks like laptop makers are more than ready to give this brand a go, including the American-based EVGA corporation, a computer hardware company that focuses mainly on GPU based video cards from Nvidia, as well as Intel motherboards for consumers and techies. Together, you get yet another fascinating attempt at delivering desktop-level graphics performance in a mobile package.

Together, EVGA, Nvidia and Intel have made it so the SC17 Gaming Laptop is officially here. Described as a high performance laptop for the ‘hardest core’ gamer, performance enthusiasts, and designed with overclockers in mind, the aluminum bodied gaming device measures in at 1.05 inches thick and 8.5 pounds. That’s surprisingly thin, isn’t it? Even more impressive is its 17.3 inch 4K Ultra HD display features 3840 x 2160 pixels, at 60Hz. As hinted, the SC17 comes with the GeForce GTX 1070 GPU from Nvidia, and Intel’s Core i7-6820HK “unlocked and OC-ready CPU”.

More hardware. EVGA’s SC17 features 32GB of G.Skill 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM, a 256GB M.2 MVMe PCI-e SSD, and a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive (impressive to remember this all fits inside 1.05 inches of space). Also cool to note is that EVGA’s power supply has been built into it’s very own form-factor. Especially since the word “overclocking” continues to come up when discussing the SC17, the power supply is capable of delivering up to 240 watts of power when needed. VR ready? Yes it is. Yet, with just 2 USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 1 USB 3.1 Type-C, and nothing else, not every setup for VR is going to work well. In the least, using something like the HTC Vive is feasible if you ditch the mouse, or adapt the situation to run the base Oculus set up by using a USB C-to-A.

The first gaming laptop from the EVGA company, and how can we expect it to perform? Well, the $2699.99 powerhouse includes the highest-end from both Intel and Nvidia, is customizable with fully accessible UEFI BIOS, and even contains a mobile version of its overclocking software, “Precision Mobile”, for arranging your preferred CPU and GPU settings in Windows 10. The level of transfer rates, thanks to all that RAM, is more than we usually see mobile gaming do, and the extra performance-driven storage makes anything from program installation to extra space on-the-fly an easy feat.
