Lenovo is in the news this week with its new Yoga 910 laptops, aiming to take on Dell’s highly prestigious XPS 13 by rocking an edge-to-edge display, and posing as a serious powerhouse laptop in a 2-in-1 form factor. We should give it up to Lenovo, who pretty much decided the 2-in-1 convertible laptop was going to be a thing by designing the Yoga line. Yet, we’re surprisingly quickly asked to get over the Yoga 900 enough to talk about the latest 910. This could be due to the fact that the Yoga 900 was, and still is, one of the greatest of the Yoga series.

So what’s so special about the latest Yoga 910? Announced at the IFA conference in Berlin, there’s at least enough improvements and maintenance to call it the upgrade to its lovely predecessor. The most defining feature of the Yoga series, of course, is its hinge that allows it to be used in any of the four modes we know and love (well, depending on the person, place, and thing). There’s of course Standard laptop mode, Tablet mode for reading and getting cozy, notetaking, etc., Stand mode- screen up, keyboard down, as pictured (which is a more interesting preference), and of course Tent mode, where it’s balanced on its edges, and is great for showing a presentation.

Great thing about the display on these guys- they have edge-to-edge, nearly bezel-less (just 5mm of space between screen and body) walls, which is slightly less than Dell’s XPS 13, but comes in two options. You can choose between either the 4K display (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) or full HD display, which is a big deal on this model of the Yoga 900 series because as the bezel becomes smaller, the screen area (which is 10 percent larger now) has 14 percent more pixel density in the same breath. Furthermore, there’s several design choices (including a Gorilla Glass 4 option) for display, a backlit keyboard and larger touchpad, for example, that give this model extra complexity and options than the previous option.

Down to what the Yoga 910 actually entails. You get a 13.9-inch display, an increase from the 13.3 inches in the Yoga 900, plus a mere .56 inches in thickness, and a slightly heavier 3.04 pounds versus the last 2.85 pound Yoga 900 (which most likely comes from that bit of extra screen action). More hardware includes 7th gen Intel Core, also known as “Kaby Lake” chips, said to aid in extra battery life, and a more systematic powerhouse. There’s three USB ports- these include a USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a USB 3.0 Type-C port, one USB Type-A 3.0 port. Additionally, you’ll find an HDMI and DisplayPort, but no video ports. Finally, there’s of course the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1.

Hey, this is a pretty good upgrade in plenty of perfect places, adapting to all the current technologies available, all while providing the beauty and added pleasurable function of a better display. However, after all of this, remember we just heard about the new Yoga Book, and it has totally won our hearts. Whether or not the spotlight is on the Yoga Book more than an amended renovated revised Yoga 910 isn’t the point. There are 4 modes to be used, a gorgeous display to be had, and high-performance to be enjoyed. The revised option will become available starting October, and consumers can then choose between Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, or Gunmetal Grey for color.
