Lenovo sure is ready for this holiday season, announcing its upcoming Miix 720 2-in-1 hybrid device during an event late last month. There's a lot of competition to be had during this time, especially right after hearing about another tech giants highly anticipated Surface Studio, an all-in-one PC from Microsoft, which took up the attention of all audiences. However, Lenovo’s update to the Miix 700 series is currently all spoken word, and all of its specifications clearly match up. So although we haven’t officially seen the unveiling happen, sources tell us this time, it will be sporting a higher resolution display, a keyboard cover featuring backlit keys, USB Type-C, plus other worthwhile updates.

Most of what you want to know about the 2-in-1 tablet is here. Lenovo’s Miix 720-12IKB tablet features a 12-inch, 2880 x 1820 display protected by Gorilla Glass 4 - which is a pretty darn amazing; also measuring .35 inches thick, and weighing just 1.7 pounds. The keyboard cover will make the thickness increase to .57 inches, and the weight to 2.4 pounds. All the goodies, hardware-wise, include Intel's Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U CPU options, all super fast processors that mean this model will be far more powerful than last year's (also higher price points as well). As for storage, the Miix 720 includes up to a 1TB PCIe SSD, and supports up to 16GB of DDR4 memory. Funny, how the latest Microsoft Surface Pro tablet still sports older Intel chips, its Core “Skylake” line of chips, while this 2-in-1 seems to have some super impressive specs across the board, including the upgrade to 7th-gen “Kaby Lake”, as mentioned.

Ports and connectivity specs are pretty fantastic, considering this is a tablet that turns into a laptop, it has most of what you’d expect from a nice laptop or even desktop. This is including one USB 3.1 Type-C (good for charging the tablet’s 41Wh battery), one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, a microSD card slot, and of course a headset jack. It of course supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1.

Sure the Surface Pro 4 is probably going to win best tablet/laptop hybrid available on the market as of today, but for a 2-in-1 of this caliber, the Miix 720 is a great idea for those who want something super portable and on-the-go. Not to mention, it's possible that this device could even go head-to-head with the Surface Pro 4 considering it's ridiculously nice 3:2 ratio high-res display, multiple USB ports for all your needs, and those Kaby Lake processors made by Intel. There’s not much more you would need here, and the only thing holding folks back from agreeing is of course price and availability. So let us wait for the official release.
