Installation and Removal Instructions
Dell Latitude D630 ATG CPU Heatsink
Step 1
- Slide the battery latches to the left and the right.
- Slide the battery down and lift out of the laptop.
Step 2
- Unscrew the retaining screw and lift the door from the laptop.
Step 3
- Unscrew the 2mm x 5mm optical drive latch locking screw.
- Eject the optical drive latch by pressing it in.
- Slide the optical drive out of the laptop.
Step 4
- Unscrew the (2) 3mm x 3mm hard drive screws.
- Slide the hard drive out of the laptop.
Step 5
- Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm bottom hinge screws.
- Unscrew the (2) 2.5mm x 5mm hinge screws on the back edge of the laptop.
- Remove the (7) 2.5mm x 8mm base screws.
Step 6
- Loosen the 2 non-removable PCI slot screws.
Step 7
- Open the laptop as wide as possible, approximately 180 degrees.
- On the right side of the power button cover, use a flat head screw driver to lift and unsnap the power button cover.
- Working from right to left, unsnap the power button cover and lift it from the laptop.
Step 8
- Unscrew the (3) 2mm x 3mm screws.
- Carefully lift the keyboard up, flip it over, and rest it on the palm rest.
- Carefully lift the keyboard up, flip it over, and rest it on the palm rest.
Step 9
- Unlatch the keyboard cable retaining clip by pivoting the blue clip up.
- Unplug the keyboard cable by lifting the blue ribbon straight up.
Step 10
- Unplug the wireless WLAN antenna cables.
- Disconnect the WWAN antenna cables.
Step 11
- Unplug the LCD cable.
- Remove the antenna cables and LCD cable from the routing channels.
- Lift the LCD display assembly away from the laptop base.
Step 12
- Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 8mm palm rest screws.
Step 13
- Unplug the CMOS battery.
- Unplug the palm rest. The cable is located under the left edge of the palm rest.
- Lift the palm rest from the base.
Step 14
- Loosen the 4 heat sink screws.
- Remove the heat sink from the motherboard.
Step 15
- Installation note 1: Make sure to replace thermal compound or thermal pads on the CPU and heatsink.
- Installation note 2: Tighten the heatsink screws in the order listed on the heatsink.
