Acer’s Nitro 5 is an Entry-Level, Solid Gaming Laptop

Acer is on a roll lately. From its latest Predator Triton gaming notebook, to a new 27-inch HDR curved monitor, the gaming company has now come up with an on-a-budget gaming laptop. Taking at look at the Nitro 5 hands-on, the entry-level device surely looks the part of a true gaming device, packing plenty of performance and a flashy good persona. Overall, this could be Acer’s solution to gamers who want to be as casual as they want, or for those who don’t even game often, but are down for some fun every once in awhile. This means configuration options are middle-of-the-road, yet allow enough elective to reach a high-end CPU processor from Intel, if desired.

The Acer Nitro 5 is also upgradable enough to utilize NVIDIA graphics, as well as throw in as much as 32GB of RAM, if needed. On the topic of appearance and display, the Nitro 5, beyond its red chassis lighting and colored accents, features a 15.6-inch 1080p display, a single USB Type-C port, a single USB 3.0 port, and 2 USB 2.0s. That’s enough ports to make most folks happy in getting the most out of their laptop, if needing any extra peripherals, a charging station, or an accessory.

This particular laptop doesn’t look or feel cheap, and as mentioned, the iterations available make it even easier to provide the consumer with enough options to suit their own pockets. One iteration provides an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti GPU, with seventh generation Core processors from Intel, the other offers both seventh generation AMD A-series CPUs, and RX550 GPUS. The price includes $799 for the baseline option, a less fancy option but hey, it could be just the right gaming portal for any college kid or entry-level gamer. Finally, there’s gigabit Ethernet, a wireless card, and HDMI 2.0 port.

For now, all we know about battery life is Acer’s claim of about 8 hours or so, which is not bad at all. By now you might be able to tell that, although dubbed as a “budget laptop”, the Nitro 5 isn’t quite burdened with the negative connotations that go along with that title. For an entry-level gaming notebook, the Nitro 5 is fulfilling the role of being a performance-packing alternative to $1,000+ alternatives.
