Installation and Removal Instructions
Dell Inspiron 1420n Modem Port Circuit Board
Step 1
- Slide the 2 battery latches towards the outside of the laptop.
- Slide the battery out.
Step 2
- Loosen the 2 retaining screws.
- Lift the hard drive door away form the laptop.
Step 3
- Using the black tape, lift the hard drive and caddy out of the laptop.
Step 4
- Loosen the 3 retaining screws.
- Lift the memory door away form the laptop.
Step 5
- Separate the the memory clips until the memory stick lifts up.
- Lift the memory stick away from the motherboard.
- Repeat the process for the second memory stick.
Step 6
- Remove the 2mm x 3mm screw.
- Unplug the modem card from the motherboard.
- Unplug the modem cable.
Step 7
- Loosen the 3 retaining screws.
- Remove the CPU processor door.
Step 8
- Loosen theLift the heat sink away from the motherboard. 4 heat sink screws.
Step 9
- Using a flat head screw driver, turn the CPU locking screw counterclockwise approximately 180 degrees.
- Lift the CPU processor away from the motherboard.
Step 10
- Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the bottom of the laptop.
- Remove the (2) 2.5mm x 8mm hinge screws on the back of the laptop.
Step 11
- Remove the (13) 2.5mm x 8mm bottom base screws.
Step 12
- Remove the (3) 2mm x 3mm bottom base screws.
- Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm bottom base screw.
Step 13
- Turn the laptop over an open it up.
- Using a flat head screw driver pry up the power button cover starting on the right side and work your way to the left.
Step 14
- Unscrew the (2) 2mm x 3mm screws.
- Carefully lift the keyboard up and position it above the power button.
Step 15
- Carefully pivot up the blue latch on the keyboard cable connector and slide the cable out.
Step 16
- Remove the left and right hinge covers.
Step 17
- Unplug the WLAN antenna cables.
- Unscrew the 2mm x 3mm screw.
- Remove the WLAN card from the motherboard.
Step 18
- Unplug the WWAN antenna cables.
- Unscrew the 2mm x 3mm screw.
- Remove the WWAN card from the motherboard.
Step 19
- Remove the 2mm x 3mm screw on the media button circuit board.
- Loosen the media button circuit board and remove the antenna cables from under it.
Step 20
- Unplug the LCD cable.
- Lift the LCD display assembly away from the laptop.
Step 21
- Remove the (3) 2.5mm x 5mm top palmrest screws.
- Unplug the palmrest cables.
Step 22
- Remove the palmrest from the laptop base.
Step 23
- Unplug the audio board cable and speakers.
- Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm screw.
Step 24
- Remove the (2) 2mm x 3mm screws.
- Lift the motherboard out of the base and turn it over.
Step 25
- Unplug the fan cable.
- Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm fan screw and lift the fan from the motherboard.
Step 26
- The remaining piece is the complete motherboard.
Step 27
- Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm Right speaker screw.
- Lift the speaker away from the base.
Step 28
- Remove the 2.5mm x 5mm screw.
- Lift the modem port away form the base.
