In this Dell laptop tutorial we are going to show you how to install and replace the Heatsink Fan Assembly on your Alienware x14 laptop. Installation and Removal Instructions

Step 1

Unscrew and remove the Bottom Base Cover (4 x 2.5mm x 6.55mm) (2 x 2.5mm x 6.55mm).

Step 2

Unscrew and remove the Bottom Base Cover (4 x 2.5mm x 6.55mm) (2 x 2.5mm x 6.55mm).

Step 3

Disconnect the battery cable.

Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the keyboard controller cable.

Step 4

Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the keyboard controller cable.

Step 5

Unscrew and remove the Battery (6 x M2 x 4mm).

Step 6

Disconnect the speaker cable.

Unscrew and remove the SSD bracket (1 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).

Step 7

Unscrew and remove the SSD bracket (1 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).
Slide out the M.2 NVMe SSD.

Unscrew and remove the WiFi bracket (1 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).

Step 8

Unscrew and remove the WiFi bracket (1 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).
Disconnect the antenna cables.
Slide out the WiFi Card.

Unscrew and slide off the Rear I/O Cover (2 x 2.5mm x 6.5mm).

Step 9

Unscrew and slide off the Rear I/O Cover (2 x 2.5mm x 6.5mm).

Peel back the adhesive tape to expose the I/O board cable.

Step 10

Peel back the adhesive tape to expose the I/O board cable.
Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the I/O board cable.

Unscrew and remove the LCD cable bracket (2 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).

Step 11

Unscrew and remove the LCD cable bracket (2 x 1.6mm x 1.8mm).
Disconnect the LCD cable.

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the power button cable.

Step 12

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the power button cable.

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the right cooling fan cable.

Step 13

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the right cooling fan cable.

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the left cooling fan cable.

Step 14

Unsnap the locking tab and then disconnect the left cooling fan cable.

Unsnap the locking tab and disconnect the headset port cable.

Step 15

Unsnap the locking tab and disconnect the headset port cable.

Step 16

Unscrew and remove the Motherboard (9 x M2 x 4mm).
Make sure to carefully route the headset port cable between the cooling fan and the motherboard during the removal.

Unscrew and remove the Heatsink Cooling Fan Assembly (8 x

Unscrew and remove the Heatsink Cooling Fan Assembly (8 x M2 x 3mm).

Wipe away any old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink.

Wipe away any old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink.

***NOTE: Make sure to not touch the heat transfer areas on the heatsink and processors. The oils on your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal paste.
