Installation and Removal Instructions
Alienware x17 R2 Motherboard
Step 1
- Before you begin: If you need help at any point, you can always contact Parts-People Repair Department for help with your diagnosis or repair.
Step 2
- TOOLS FOR THIS REPAIR: Phillips #0 Screwdriver and a Plastic Scribe.
- Unscrew the bottom base cover (2 X 2.5mm x 9mm) (4 X captive screws) (2 x M2.5 x 5mm).
- Pry apart and remove the Bottom Base Cover.
Step 3
- Disconnect the Battery Cable.
Step 4
- Unscrew and remove the SSD thermal bracket (1 x M2 x 3mm).
- Slide out the M.2 NVMe SSD from SSD slot 1.
Step 5
- Unscrew and remove the SSD thermal bracket (1 x M2 x 3mm).
- Slide out the M.2 NVMe SSD from SSD slot 2.
Step 9
- Disconnect the DC Jack cable.
Step 10
- Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the left and right LED cables.
Step 11
- Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the camera cable.
Step 14
- Disconnect the audio cable.
- Disconnect the I/O board cable.
Step 15
- Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the power button cable.
Step 16
- Remove the audio port.
Step 19
- Unscrew and remove the WiFi antenna bracket.
Step 20
- Disconnect the speaker cable.
- Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the keyboard controller cable.
Step 21
- Peel back the adhesive cover.
- Unclip the locking tab and disconnect the display cable.

- BEFORE REPLACING HEATSINK: Wipe away any old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink.
- ***NOTE: Make sure to not touch the heat transfer areas on the heatsink and processors. The oils on your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal paste.
Step 26
- Apply a small amount of new thermal paste to the processors.
- Replace the heatsink.
- ***FOLLOW THE ORIGINAL STEPS IN REVERSE TO REASSEMBLE YOUR LAPTOP.
